This site does not fullfill it's original purpose and so must be changed.

To this end we are going to start afresh splitting the site into three or more unique sites each with a unique domain name.

We will in time produce a search engine specifically for thanet content.

None of us intended to become administrators of a large and unwieldy system to complex for the average web user to consider using. But we have become this.

Over 600 Criminals Missing From A Kent Prison

Kent County Council

The Home Office has admitted that over 600 criminals have walked free from Kent's Open Prison, Standford Hill on the Isle of Sheppey since 1995 and since the beginning of April 2006 a total of 32 prisoners have absconded.

"The prison service is currently developing a mechanism for collating recapture data. At the moment the only way of providing this information is for every prison to interrogate records... This could be undertaken only at disproportionate cost." Said Gerry Sutcliffe the Parliamentary Under-Secretary.

So although they know that they have lost around 606 criminals since 1995 they have no way of finding out if those criminals were ever recaptured.

News Round Up.

Kent County Council | Margate | Thanet District Council | Ramsgate

For me personally being interviewed by the BBC tomorrow about what it is like to live arround here and other issues for a political lunchtime program is the highlight.

But for those of you that are not me here is the news in brief.

If I sleep with my feet in the freezer and my head in the oven...

Kent County Council | Thanet District Council | Help & Advice

The Thanet Times (Tuesday, October 31, 2006) wanted to shock us with the "fact" that we have 119 registered sex offenders living in Thanet with a population of 120,000.

Then without converting to a compariable measure they state the Kent average is 59 per 100,000.

Matt looks at the numbers and shows us what they mean

Have you needed the police recently? What was your expirence of them?

The "One Stop Shop" that was a libaray.

Kent County Council

I have in my hands a document produced by TDC and KCC entitled "Towards Shared Service Delivery".

In it is the usual excess of wordiness but also some very telling diagrams.

The upper level is very hard to read in these plans but the plans do show the following "features":

  • Existing Reading Desks Maintained
  • "Open Planned Zones" one of which will contain "teenager books"
  • Toilets
  • Unisex Baby Changing Area
  • Art Tower
  • Art/Display Window

I see a truely (un)impressive feature called "the wall" (I kid you not grab a copy of this document if you can).

Margate Library - new findings

Kent County Council

Not content with just sitting arround and moaning about the council I took the step of using the Citizen Speak section to message all and sundry over this issue.

I have since had the pleasure of a message from Suzy Gale which said simply.

Roger has asked me to thank you for your email and to say that TDC have absolutely no responsibility for the Margate Library.

This is dealt with by Kent County Council.

We have therefore passed on your concerns to Cllr Chris Wells, your local KCC councillor for his attention.

You will be aware that as Government funding has been cut for Kent, the KCC are now having to make some cuts themselves in services.

Kent police survey on road issues

Kent County Council

Kent police have been sending out surveys as part of it's "Citizens Panel".

They have been asking who people feel are best place to deal with road crime issues. They want to know if they think Kent County Council or Kent Police have the most confidence of the people.

They will also be asking people which crimes they should be focusing on. Examples include Noisy Cars, Speeding or damaged or unlicensed vehicles.

The findings should be available towards the end of 2006 at www.kent.police.uk (although you will have to navigate to find it).
